Class A: Williamstown vs. Greenbrier West
2h 35m
The Williamstown Yellowjackets replicated their winning formula from the previous year, utilizing a dominant rushing attack to secure their second consecutive Class A state championship with a decisive 42-12 victory over Greenbrier West at Wheeling Island Stadium.
The Yellowjackets established their dominance early, accumulating 287 rushing yards and 28 unanswered points in the first half. Maxwell Molessa, the Williamstown quarterback, led the charge with a 98-yard touchdown run, the longest in Super Six history.
The Yellowjackets' defense, while allowing yardage, effectively contained the Cavaliers' scoring opportunities, holding them scoreless for almost 22 minutes. Greenbrier West struggled to establish their pass game, forcing them to rely on their run game, which the Yellowjackets were well-prepared to defend.
Molessa, who will be playing baseball at West Virginia University, had a standout performance, completing 8 of 9 passes for 96 yards and rushing for 160 yards. Louis Goodnow and Lynken Joy also contributed significantly to the Yellowjackets' rushing attack.
This victory marks Williamstown's fourth state championship in program history and their second consecutive undefeated season. Greenbrier West, despite the loss, made a strong showing in their first Super Six appearance in 10 years.
