AAA Chip (Girls 2025): Nitro vs. Wayne
Sports
In a highly anticipated rematch for the Class AAA state championship, the Wayne Pioneers overcame a determined Nitro Wildcats squad to secure their first state title. After a defensive struggle in their regular season meeting, Wayne showcased a potent offensive attack, shooting nearly 50% from the field and controlling the middle quarters of the game. Wayne's strategic adjustments, including shifting Brooke Adkins to point guard and utilizing Jayce Sammons on the wing, proved effective in creating favorable matchups and exploiting Nitro's defense. Jayce Sammons led all scorers with 22 points, earning the Most Outstanding Player award, while Brooke Adkins contributed 16 points and crucial steals. Despite Nitro's initial lead and attempts to rally, Wayne's consistent pressure and offensive execution proved too much to handle, as they outscored Nitro significantly in the second and third quarters. Nitro struggled with outside shooting, attempting 26 three-pointers, and ultimately fell short, with the final score being Wayne 56, Nitro 39.
