Frequent bolts of lightning were the only way to slow Tygarts Valley’s Jaxon Drennen in Monday’s Potomac Valley Conference contest between the Bulldogs and East Hardy. No. 5 TVHS jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning before the game was suspended by weather.
The game will resume when the teams play their next regularly scheduled contest in Baker on April 29. An initial lightning delay came in the top of the fourth inning with Drennen one strike away from ending the frame. When play resumed, Drennen needed just one pitch to end the inning. However, another round of lightning just seconds later forced the suspension.
Drennen, a Potomac State commit, struck out seven batters in four innings of work and he allowed just two baserunners.
Tygarts Valley (6-4) opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Kaden Moore delivered a two-run double to score Drennen and Adam Woods. In the third inning, Ian Harris sent Moore and Jacob Wamsley to the plate with a two-run single. The Bulldogs collected seven hits in their three innings at the plate.
Jordan Teets struck out three batters for East Hardy (1-5). The Cougars advanced to the state tournament in 2024.
